In 2026, Nyoungjun Moon established ‘the RCA Women Big Performance Crew’

The phrase “If you cross this sign, you will become gay” may appear as a joke or a superstition, but it in fact contains language that frames sexual minorities as abnormal and ridiculous. I aim to critique this structure in which everyday discrimination is reproduced in the form of humor, and to render it ineffective.

This work challenges the gaze that trivializes queer identities and attempts to transform it into a ritual of “cancellation” enacted through the female body and collective action. By introducing a new narrative—a superstition-cancelling ritual—the performance intervenes in and dismantles the irrational and discriminatory meanings embedded within such beliefs.

The performance is carried out through the collective force of women. Historically positioned as subjects of superstition and oppression, the female body here becomes a site of agency that dismantles another form of social othering—the mockery of queer identities. This act functions as a gesture of solidarity, in which historically oppressed subjects participate in undoing other forms of oppression.

Through this work, I ask: why have certain identities been consumed as objects of humor? And how can such language be interrupted and neutralized? Through performance, I seek to dismantle existing social “rituals” and continue a practice of generating new meanings.

‘표지판을 건너면 게이가 된다’같은 말은 농담이나 미신처럼 보이지만 실제로는 성소수자들을 비정상/우스운 존재로 만드는 언어를 담고있다. 이러한 일상적 차별이 농담의 형태로 되어지는 구조에 대해 비판하고 이를 무효화하고자 한다.

즉 그 안에 숨어 있는 퀴어 정체성을 희화화하는 시선에 문제를 제기하고, 그것을 여성의 몸과 행위로 ‘취소’하는 의식으로 전환하고자 한다. 미신 취소 의식 이라는 새로운 서사를 만들어 개입하고, 이러한 미신을 해체하고 무효화하기 위해 여성 집단의 힘을 사용한다.

억압받아온 주체가 다른 억압을 해체하는 연대적 행위로서 비합리적이고 차별적인 미신을 무효화하는 집단적 행위를 수행한다. 역사적으로 미신과 억압의 대상이 되어온 여성의 몸이, 또 다른 사회적 타자화—퀴어에 대한 조롱—를 해체하는 주체로 전환되는 순간을 만들어낸다. 이는 단순한 상징적 제스처를 넘어, 억압받아온 존재들 간의 연대 가능성을 탐색하는 시도이기도 하다.

우리는 왜 특정 정체성을 농담의 대상으로 소비해왔는가? 그리고 그러한 언어를 어떻게 멈추고, 무효화할 수 있는가? 나는 퍼포먼스를 통해, 이미 존재하는 사회적 ‘의식’을 해체하고, 새로운 의미를 생성하는 실천을 이어가고자 한다.
