Moon Nyoungjun (b. 1998, Seoul) explores how power is constructed and internalised. Through fiction, superstition, belief systems, and architectural structures, she examines how social norms become naturalised and accepted as inevitable, revealing how they shape individual perception and behaviour. She is particularly interested in the systems of belief and convention that people unconsciously absorb, repeat, and reproduce.
Working across sculpture, performance, and photography, Moon employs a restrained visual language to investigate the relationships between space, the body, memory, and power. Her practice began with a long-term investigation into the house but has gradually shifted towards the broader question of dwelling.
Her recent research examines the reciprocal attachments formed between bodies and spaces over time.
she has been developing the concept of viscosity. She calls this viscosity: the gradual coming together of body and space, where relationships accumulate, memories sediment, and time becomes materially embedded. Through this concept, she expands the notion of the home beyond a physical dwelling, understanding it as a habitat where power is internalised and reproduced, and where diverse forms of existence can inhabit, attach, and accumulate.
Moon now approaches sculpture not as an autonomous object but as a habitat for experimenting with dwelling. Rather than representing a house, her sculptures construct conditions for habitation, allowing human and non-human beings, memories, time, and virtual entities to accumulate and form relationships. Sculpture becomes a living environment in which existence, power, and memory are continuously produced, negotiated, and transformed.
문녕준(1998, 서울)은 권력이 어떻게 구성되고 내면화되는지를 탐구한다. 허구, 미신, 신념 체계, 건축적 구조를 통해 사회적 규범이 어떻게 자연스럽고 필연적인 것으로 받아들여지는지를 살피며, 그러한 믿음이 개인의 감각과 행동을 어떻게 조직하는지를 드러낸다. 그녀는 사람들이 자각하지 못한 채 내면화하고 반복하며 재생산하는 신념과 관습의 체계에 관심을 두고 작업한다.
조각, 퍼포먼스, 사진을 넘나드는 그녀의 작업은 절제된 조형 언어를 통해 공간, 신체, 기억, 권력 사이의 관계를 탐구한다. 작업은 오랫동안 '집'에 대한 탐구에서 출발했지만, 점차 '거주(dwelling)'라는 보다 넓은 질문으로 확장되었다. 최근에는 시간의 흐름 속에서 신체와 공간이 서로에게 흔적을 남기며 형성하는 상호적 애착 관계를 연구하고 있으며, 이를 설명하기 위해 '점성(viscosity)'이라는 개념을 발전시키고 있다. 그녀가 말하는 점성이란, 신체와 공간이 서서히 서로에게 달라붙으며 관계가 축적되고, 기억이 침전되며, 시간이 물질적으로 스며드는 상태를 의미한다. 이러한 개념을 통해 그녀는 집을 단순한 물리적 주거가 아니라, 권력이 내면화되고 재생산되며 다양한 존재가 머무르고 달라붙고 축적되는 서식지(habitat)로 확장해 이해한다.
문녕준은 이제 조각을 독립적인 오브제가 아니라 거주를 실험하기 위한 하나의 서식지로 접근한다. 그녀의 조각은 집을 재현하는 대신, 인간과 비인간 존재, 기억, 시간, 그리고 가상의 존재들이 머물며 관계를 형성할 수 있는 거주의 조건을 구축한다. 이때 조각은 더 이상 고정된 형태가 아니라, 존재와 권력, 기억이 끊임없이 생성되고 협상되며 변화하는 살아 있는 환경으로 제안된다.
